American opera singer Renée Fleming performed at a fundraiser for the educational outreach program of the Cleveland Orchestra on October 3, 2015.

The Cleveland Orchestra is among the world’s leading orchestras with a long tradition of musical excellence.

The encore to the program featured “I’m in Love With Vienna” by Johann Strauss, with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, music adapted and arranged by Dimitri Tiomkin for the 1938 film The Great Waltz.

The orchestra that recorded the music for “I’m in Love with Vienna” in Hollywood in 1938 included some fine musicians, including Bronislaw Gimpel, Albert Vertchamp, Sylvain Noack, Julian Brodetsky, and more.

Music Director Franz Welser-Möst and soprano Renée Fleming performed with the Orchestra in the gala concert at Cleveland’s Severance Hall.

Eleven hundred people attended the fundraiser, which was reviewed by Mark Satola in Cleveland’s The Plain Dealer.

The thunderous ovations attested to the evening’s musical success, but just as importantly, the benefit concert was a financial success as well, reaping $1.2 million for the orchestra’s education and outreach projects.

The Cleveland Orchestra programs “are designed to connect people to music in the concert hall, in classrooms, and in everyday lives.”
