George Stevens

Photo of George Stevens, inscribed by the director the year after “Giant” was released. “To my dear friend Dimitri — from your great admirer / My maestro and your fond friend.”

Giant, produced and directed by George Stevens (pictured, left), features Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, and James Dean supported by the likes of Dennis Hopper, Sal Mineo, and Rod Taylor in the epic saga of a Texas family and their ranch.

The La-La Land recording was produced, edited, and assembled by Neil S. Bulk; and mastered by Doug Schwartz from mono studio vault elements, with additional engineering by Mike Matessino. The booklet contains extensive liner notes by Frank K. DeWald; the art direction is by Jim Titus.

Eight sample tracks, including “Main Title and Hunt Scene” and, appropriately for December, “Toy Trumpet March—Christmas Morning—Angel’s Return” can be heard at La-La Land Records.

The film contains both Christmas and wedding scenes scored by Tiomkin, who by this time had some experience with both.
