Tiomkin film music concert suites now available from Schott and EAM

Schott EAMDimitri Tiomkin film music concert suites for orchestra are now available as rentals from the European American Music (EAM) Distributors Company, a member of the Schott Music Group. Tiomkin joins an A-list of American and European composers whose music is distributed by Schott: George Antheil, Patrick Doyle, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Jerome Moross, Max Steiner, John Williams, among them. “High and the Mighty Suite”

The seven-minute concert suite for full orchestra showcases Tiomkin’s music for the 1954 film. Arranged by Christopher Palmer and Patrick Russ, the suite includes an optional chorus, with Ned Washington’s lyrics from the film. Tiomkin received an Academy Award for his score. The suite was recorded in 2005 by the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Richard Kaufman, and released by Varese Sarabande. “Land of the Pharaohs from the film, ‘Land of the Pharaohs'”

The five-minute concert suite for Land of the Pharaohs for full orchestra. Programming suggestions: Egyptian-themed films; 1950s films.

“Old Man and the Sea Suite”

The six-minute concert suite for The Old Man and the Sea for full orchestra. Programming suggestions: Oscar winning-scores; Classic Hollywood themes; Adventure films; Sea stories; 1950s films.

“Rio Bravo Concert Suite from the film Rio Bravo”

The eight-minute Rio Bravo concert suite for full orchestra includes the main thematic material from Tiomkin’s music for the 1959 film. Arranged by Christopher Palmer and Patrick Russ, the three movement suite consists of the “Main Title (‘Rio Bravo’),” “Love Theme,” and “Deguello.” There is an optional male vocal solo for “Rio Bravo,” with lyrics by Paul Francis Webster. Recorded in 2011 by the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Richard Kaufman, and released by LSO Live in 2012, “The Greatest Film Scores of Dimitri Tiomkin.” Programming suggestions: Westerns; Classic Hollywood themes; John Wayne movies; 1950s films.

“Suite from Giant”

The twelve-minute concert suite for Giant for full orchestra showcases Tiomkin’s music for the 1956 film. Arranged by Christopher Palmer and Patrick Russ, the four movement suite consists of a “Prelude,” the “Love Theme From Giant: There’s Never Been Anyone Else But You,” “Ballad of Jett Rink,” and the “Finale.” The Finale includes an optional chorus for “The Green Leaves of Summer.” Tiomkin received an Academy Award nomination for his score. Recorded in 2011 by the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Richard Kaufman, and released by LSO Live in 2012, “The Greatest Film Scores of Dimitri Tiomkin.” Programming suggestions: Oscar nominated-scores; Westerns; Classic Hollywood themes; Texas; James Dean movies; Elizabeth Taylor movies; 1950s films.

“Sundowners Theme from the film ‘The Sundowners’”

The rousing two-minute theme from Sundowners is a crowd pleaser.
