The annual Dimitri Tiomkin festival in the city of the composer’s birth, Kremenchuk (sometimes spelled Kremenchug), Ukraine, will take place on April 25 to 27, 2018. In honor of their native son, the festival supports young pianists and improvisational music as the basis of creativity, and each year’s festival includes a competition of pianist improvisers.
As a world-renowned musician and pianist, Tiomkin represents the Ukrainian dream. He was born in Kremenchug in 1894 and learned to play the piano in the city of his birth. The festival organizers hope that people living in Ukraine will appreciate the country they live in and the talents of those born and raised there. And that local young musicians will be inspired by Tiomkin’s life and music.
