Reporting from London, October 27, 2011

The final rehearsal for the London Symphony Orchestra concert, Symphonic Hollywood: The Music of Dimitri Tiomkin, will take place this afternoon. This evening’s concert is going to be fantastic and presents a not-to-be-missed opportunity to hear Tiomkin’s music performed live in concert by the LSO, a model orchestra whose administration, programming, and musicians are admired by orchestras around the world.

Head over to the Barbican Centre this evening for the festivities starting at 6:15 p.m. The pre-concert talk runs from 6:15 to 6:45, with the LSO’s principal percussionist Neil Percy, conductor Richard Kaufman, and symphonic orchestrator Patrick Russ participating. Catch the LSO Fusion Orchestra playing music inspired by Tiomkin at the Barbican Freestage from 6:45 to 7:15. The concert begins at 7:30 in Barbican Hall.

Don’t miss the poster exhibit in the foyer (pictured at right).

I know that a number of film music aficienados have traveled here from the United States, the Netherlands, Germany, and elsewhere to be at the concert.

TOMORROW: Read all about the concert, find out who was there, and more.
