London: Coda

by Warren M. Sherk

Reporting from London, October 31, 2011

Thanks to the London Symphony Orchestra and the Barbican Centre, Londoners had an unprecedented opportunity to experience the film music of Dimitri Tiomkin through concerts and film screenings throughout the month of October.

The London Symphony Orchestra’s Facebook page was filled with positive comments from concertgoers. Rawhide got great kudos as more than one person admitted the tune was stuck in their head after the concert closing sing-a-long. Others mentioned the outstanding LSO performance, the “striking” music, the “lovely evening,” and the much anticipated LSO Live recording. Via Twitter there were updates on the unfolding action and tweets that included “incredible show,” “absolutely blinding performance,” and “Dimitri Tiomkin is American filmscore at it’s best.” Thanks to Jo Johnson, LSO Digital Marketing Manager, for forwarding these comments.

The past 10 days of my London visit have been wonderful, each day filled with music or film. Thanks to the LSO administration and the Barbican Centre for bringing these memorable events to the public.
