Burt Kennedy directed this Western, which starred John Wayne and Burt Kennedy. War Wagon, released by Universal in May 1967, was the fifth John Wayne film scored by Tiomkin. The CD, containing twenty-four tracks and more than forty-three minutes of music, opens with a rousing song by Tiomkin and lyricist Ned Washington. The “Ballad of the War Wagon” is sung over the main title credits by Ed Ames. Ames was in demand due to his hit recording of “My Cup Runneth Over” which had sold a million copies prior to the release of War Wagon and ranked Number 46 on the Billboard Top 100 for 1967.
