Purchase the e-book: Dimitri Tiomkin: A Portrait

“Dimitri Tiomkin: A Portrait” is a highly readable biography by orchestrator Christopher Palmer. Palmer’s book is in three parts, with a biographical chronology, historical perspective, and a discussion of Tiomkin’s landmark scores, such as High Noon, the Hitchcock trilogy, and The Fall of the Roman Empire. Principal awards, honors, and a filmography round out the book. All 50 of the photographs from the print edition were scanned from the original source material and are included in the Kindle edition. Many of the images are available only in this book. The “Preface to the Electronic Edition” by Warren M. Sherk is filled with biographical information on Palmer and serves to introduce the book to a new generation of readers.

Economically priced at US$9.99, the e-book will be enjoyed by fans, students, scholars, and film music enthusiasts throughout the world. As a KDP Select book, readers may borrow “Dimitri Tiomkin: A Portrait” from the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library.

Christopher Palmer (1946–1995) was a force majeure in film music circles for some twenty-five years beginning around 1970. A consummate musician, his career encompassed symphonic orchestration, recording, writing, and lecturing. His intimate knowledge of Tiomkin’s music and personal acquaintance with the composer uniquely qualified Palmer to pen a critical assessment of his mentor. With the print version long unavailable, this electronic edition will allow readers to come to know, as Palmer would have said, “a composer in Hollywood.”

The Kindle edition is published by Volta Music, thanks to generous support from Olivia Tiomkin Douglas.
