Earlier this year the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences uploaded video of Walt Disney presenting the music categories at the 25th Academy Awards held at the RKO Pantages Theatre on March 19, 1953, honoring movies released in 1952.

The YouTube video, “Walt Disney Presents Three Music Oscars,” has received more than 3,500 views since it was posted on January 4, 2013.

Dimitri Tiomkin picked up two Oscars® on that night in 1953, the first for his music score for High Noon, quickly followed by a second for his song, “Do Not Forsake Me, Oh My Darlin'” from the same film. Thus High Noon became the third film, and Tiomkin became only the second composer, to receive Oscars® in both the score and song categories. The previous two films so honored were The Wizard of Oz and Pinocchio.

On this occasion, which was the first year the Academy Awards were televised, Tiomkin uttered only a few words when accepting his statuettes. Two years later in the same theater he made his famous acceptance speech for The High and the Mighty, televised around the world. The text is in the Academy Awards Acceptance Speeches database.

Since launching in February 2006, the official channel of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has uploaded more than 800 videos and it won’t be long before the site surpasses a quarter of a billion video views. If you subscribe to the channel, you will be among the first to know when the next Tiomkin video is uploaded.
