Playlist: John Carpenter’s Favorite Scores, February 2015

Check out the current issue of Entertainment Weekly in which director John Carpenter “reveals the movie music that drives him wild.”

Carpenter, probably best known for Halloween and Escape from New York, always lavished attention on the music in his films. But who knew his playlist is loaded with Dimitri Tiomkin and Bernard Herrmann?

After wading through 40 pages devoted to comprehensive coverage of the upcoming Academy Awards ceremony, to which Tiomkin was no stranger, film music buffs can review Carpenter’s EW list and then debate amongst themselves the nine films on it.

Dimitri Tiomkin ranks at the top, with scores for two films directed by Howard Hawks, The Thing from Another World and Rio Bravo.
